FlytippingA ROWLEY Regis flytipper who dumped rubbish in Blackheath will have to don an orange jacket and do 50 hours of community ‘payback’ work as his punishment.

David Jeal, aged 44, was taken to court after a shop owner in Long Lane reported the flytipping to the council’s environmental health officers.

Jeal, of Blackberry Lane, pleaded guilty at West Bromwich Magistrates Court to depositing controlled waste on land on March 22, breaching the Environmental Protection Act.

He was ordered to pay £500 and will have to complete 50 hours community payback work within 12 months.

Sandwell Council’s neighbourhoods cabinet member and deputy leader Councillor Mahboob Hussain is determined to stamp out littering and fly tipping in the borough.

He said: “Sandwell people tell us litter is one of their top concerns.

“So we are responding to their concerns by taking tough action against the small minority of people responsible for dumping litter and waste in the borough.”

He added: “This flytipper will now have to give something back to the community by doing unpaid work in the borough wearing an orange community payback jacket.”

“I thank the shopkeeper who reported this incident.”

And Cllr Hussain urged local residents to keep an eye out for any fly tippers in the future.

He said: “Sandwell people are the eyes and ears of the borough and I encourage them to report flytipping incidents to us, along with evidence they may have about who is responsible, so that we can take action.”

Residents can report fly tipping to the council by calling the anti-social behaviour helpline 0845 359 7500.
